Colour Therapy
Colour therapy has been used for healing purposes throughout the ages, indeed it is one of the earliest forms of therapy known to man. It’s well documented that colours can have an effect on our moods and emotions, warm shades like red and orange for instance energise us whereas greens and blues have a more calming effect. Colour is a form of energy so when used in certain ways by a colour therapist it can have a healing effect on our physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.
Colour therapy can help conditions like stress, anxiety, behavioural disorders and depression. It can also prove to be useful in aiding recovery from an illness, surgery or having had a baby.
Therapists use a range of techniques which may include guided visualisations, using special coloured lighting, draping the patient in coloured sheets, and crystals.
The colour blue can help a person to communicate better and generates an air of calm authority; green is often used in hospitals to enduce an atmosphere of calm and healing; pink is a relaxing colour and so great for a bedroom; violet is said to induce sweet dreams; orange is energising and promotes sociability; and yellow can bring calm to the agitated mind or comfort to those who feel claustrophic.
The winter months often bring on the blues and sitting in front of a bright light for half an hour morning and night can help this. In addition jaundice is greatly helped by exposure to light.
